Book Review: Gemina

I can’t believe how much I love this series!

“Moving to a space station at the edge of the galaxy was always going to be the death of Hanna’s social life. Nobody said it might actually get her killed.

The saga that began with the breakout bestseller Illuminae continues on board the space station Heimdall, where two new characters will confront the next wave of BeiTech’s assault. Hanna is the station captain’s pampered daughter, Nik the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. But while they are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy’s most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion.

When an elite BeiTech teams invades the station, Hanna and Nik are thrown together to defend their home. But alien predators are picking off the crew one by one, and a malfunction in the station’s wormhole means the space-time continuum may be ripped in two before dinner. Soon Hanna and Nik aren’t just fighting for their own survival. The fate of everyone on the Hypatia – and possible in the known universe – is in their hands.

But relax. They’ve totally got this. They hope.

Briefing Note: Told through a compelling dossier of found documents – and featuring guest journal illustrations by bestselling author Marie Lu – Gemina hurls readers into an enthralling new episode that will leave them breathless.”

I admit that I was a bit disappointed when I found out that the second installment of the Illuminae series wasn’t a direct continuation of the first. I thought I was going to be reading more about Kady and Ezra, but luckily, Gemina did not disappoint.

In this installment, BeiTech attacks and takes over the jump station Heimdall that we heard about in Illuminae. It’s up to Hanna and Nik to defeat the BeiTech goons and save the Heimdall, the incoming Hypatia, and the entire universe, all while the Heimdall is infested with a deadly alien species that sucks the life out of its victims.

Go ahead and add Hanna Donnelly to the list of badass chicks I want to be like when I grow up. She kicks the butts of most of the BeiTech squad, and along with Nik and his cousin, Ella, take on the entire BeiTech elite squad.

If, like me, you’re obsessed with the characters from Illuminae, don’t worry, they make a few appearances in Gemina.

This book is filled with all of the action and adventure that we saw in Illuminae, as well as the twists and turns we’ve come to expect from this trilogy.

Gemina was the perfect sequel to Illuminae, and I can’t wait for the final installment of this series, Obsidio! But it doesn’t come out until MARCH 2018 AND I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH MYSELF UNTIL THEN :((((((
